Can I " lprint " to a lexmark z52 printer using MS-DOS,
using an old '386 computer that does not have windows operating system.
The computer does have a serial port and a parallel port.
I want to be able to use the parallel port for printing.
The serial port is being used to collect data from an acqusition system.
Also, I would like to download data thru the parallel port to a windows computer
for analysis

Th Z52 is a Windows only printer.
So, I need a small program to go from MS-Dos
to the Z52

You should be able to type "lprint>lpt1 and the screen should print to
the printer. What have you tried to do?

I suppose it would be possible to write a basic program that calls a
windows driver for your printer, but that would be far beyond my
abiity. If I were in your shoes, I would find an old printer at a junk
store and use it when working in MSDOS commands. We used to print to
"daisywheel" printers and "dot matrix" printers all the time with the
simple Basic command LPRINT. And to print the screen, it was LPRINT >
LPT1.

Good luck. Your question brings back fond memories of the good old
days before the World Wide Web contained graphics.
