Hi J.T., Below is a copy of my comment that I posted yesterday plus I've added alittle bit to the end. Following an extensive online search for "Art of Another Kind" (English translation of "Un Art Autre"), we have found no evidence of an English edition, only an English exerpt within another book. Michel Tapié, Art of Another Kind: [An Exerpt From: Ferrier, Jean-Louis, Director and Yann le Pichon, Walter D. Glanze [English Translation]. Art of Our Century, The Chronicle of Western Art, 1900 to the Present. New York: Prentice-Hall Editions. 1988. p. 495] http://www.noteaccess.com/APPROACHES/Michel.htm Additional Links: Guggenheim Museum - Art Informel / Tapié: http://www.guggenheimcollection.org/site/movement_works_ArtInformel_0.html about Tapié & book http://digilander.libero.it/biblioego/Tapie.htm * L'exposition "Tapié, un art autre" http://www2.ac-toulouse.fr/lyc-bellevue-toulouse/travelev/tapie.htm "Un Art Autre" is for sale here: Andrew D.Washton - Books: http://www.washtonbooks.com/mono146p2.htm 1245.TAPIE. Michel Tapie. Un Art Autre ou il sAgit de Nouveaux Devidages du Reel. Paris, 1952.. Sm. qto, unpgd., with num. b/w plates. Wrs., minor soiling and sl. wear. The colophon states that this was issued in 1000 numbered copies, this one is not numbed, but is inscribed on the half title by the artist to Mrs. And Mrs. Georges Seligmann 100.00 On-Line Picasso Project: "In literature: Art of Another Kind by Michel Tapie. This essay will undoubtedly be long remembered. His thesis is that we must brake with the past, abandoning even the apparently revolutionary movements such as Fauvism and Cubism, which did not radically break with traditional art (Ferrier & Le Pichon 1999, 495)." http://www.tamu.edu/mocl/picasso/tour/t52d.html We searched "Michel Tapié" at the following large libraries. We believe if an English version were available, it would be listed at at least one of these libraries, and it is not. If you feel up to checking fifty years worth of the Cummulative Book Index (CBI), it is an option. It indexes all English language books published anywhere in the world from 1898. You'll find a good description of it here: http://www.lib.muohio.edu/research/indexes/description/57?print=1 Unfortunately, the on-line index covers only 1982 onward. The print editions can be found at most large libraries, usually in the reference section. It will be a matter of looking in each book and searching for the title "Art of Another Kind", beginning in 1952 and continuing all the way up to the present. If you can't find the book listed in the CBI, you can be certain that an English edition was never published. In regards to this: Read the foreword by Rodulphe Stadler: I have emailed Michael Stevenson in the event he would know of an English version and will let you know his response. http://www.michaelstevenson.com/exhibitions/christo/introduction.htm Unfortunately, I have discovered that the Stadler Gallery has closed. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please post a clarification before rating my answer. Thank you, hummer |

Dear J.T., Thank you for your nice note, rating, and tip - I'm happy you are happy. One wee clarification - my answer to your question "I would like to know if there is an english translation available..." was "No" (perhaps I was unclear on this point). All the rest of my research was just trying to determine for you if there had even been an English edition published. Again, thank you, hummer |
