I'm not sure if speeding up the computer will help speed up the gameplay itself. Civ 3 is a turn-based game, very detailed, with (at the end) sometimes dozens of decisions to make during each turn. The fastest I've won the game in a diplomatic victory (i.e. without conquering the world) has taken probably 6 hours. How long of a sitting are you willing to endure? |

If you are talking about speeding up the game by winning the game sooner try this website. This is the best Civilization strategy site I've encountered. http://www.apolyton.net/ |

The only way I've found to speed up a Civ3 game is to play at the highest difficulty level. Of course, if you want a faster game *and* win, that's a different story! This game-speeding strategy also works less well over time. |

I think the expansion pack "play the world" has some new modes that can speed up gameplay such as timed turns and even rts style. It is pretty much impossible to win in the original civ3 in one sitting (unless you have no life). |
