When you say 'rent out a portion', do you mean that the owners are
also living in the house?  And is the home in a R-1 district?  (Lots
of single family homes are located in districts zoned something other
than R-1.  Zoning significantly affects what can and can't be done
with a single family home.)

Yes, owners are also living in the same house. I am not sure about the
zoning but I would find it on Monday and post my answer. I appreciate
