I have a Harmon/Kardon DVD-5, which is a 5-disc DVD player. This unit
is approximately two years old. This DVD player has a master power
switch and a separate standby switch (or button) with a built in
indicator light. When the light displays amber color it means the
unit has power, but is not turned on, referred to as the standby mode.
When the unit is powered on, the amber light changes to a green
light.
I have seldom used this player and I have not ever moved it. The DVD
player is stuck in standby mode and I cannot get it into the Power On
mode. The Standby switch or button does not move, but the owner's
manual indicates that I should be able to press this switch in to
change it from on to standby and vice versa.
I have also tried to get the power on by using the remote control and of
course I have tried pressing the manual standby switch. I have also
tried unplugging power to the unit and then plugging it back in, but
nothing works. The actual standby switch will not move, as if it is
stuck in and may be the problem.
My question:
How can I get this repaired without spending a lot of money? Has
anyone had experience with this particular issue and if so what can I
do? I hate the thought of taking it to a typical electronics repair
shop as they may charge over a hundred dollars and DVD players have
come down in price so much I would be better off buying a new one. |
