Hello.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your song is probably
"DEATH OF HANK WILLIAMS" (1953) by Jack Cardwell.

Source: newsgroup message:
" >JACK CARDWELL
> DEATH OF HANK WILLIAMS/ DEAR JOAN...
'A way up in West Virginia, between midnight and dawn ..."

Logically, this song would make sense because Hank Williams died while
driving in a West Virginia in blue car, specifically a blue Cadillac.

The complete lyrics to the song do not appear to be online, but the
song does appear be on a CD called " 50 Years Of Country Music! Vol.
17," available from towerrecords.com
http://www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=1284989&cc=USD
Unfortunately, the sound clips on Tower's page seem to start midway
through the song and do not contain the beginning lyrics.

search strategy: "way up in west virginia", "midnight and dawn"

I hope this helps. If this is not the right song, please let me know
by using the "request clarification" feature. Thanks.
