I am looking for information on a tourist boat that sank in Lake Michigan. It was a boat that went out on a short tour (a couple of hours) from Chicago. I think that it may have taken place in the '70s but I am not too sure about that. I need to fing the name of the boat and to find some Photos of the boat before and after sinking, if possible. I am working on an art piece for an exhibition that will take place on a similar tourist boat that will leave from Navy Pier in Chicago. | |

I assumed that you meant the 1970's. I checked the print index to the Chicago Tribune from 1972-1979 (there is no Tribune index before 1972) and did not locate any references to a tour boat sinking in Lake Michigan. However, if you meant the 1870's, I can recommend some web sites you may consult to research the topic. By the way, one of the most famous shipwrecks in Lake Michigan was the wreck of the Lady Elgin, which sank off Waukegan, Illinois on September 6, 1860. For information on this accident go to http://main.blclinks.net/~sshort/shipwrecked/grtlakes/michigan/elgin.htm. Some other web sites about shipwrecks in the Great Lakes are: Great Lakes Shipwreck Research Foundation www.ghost-ships.org/2002.asp Great Lakes Page www.hwy41north.com/lakes.htm nocky -ga |
