I have been able to find references to two relevant papers co-authored
by A.F. Peterson in the 1970s. However, these articles (like most
others from that time period) are not available online.

Would the citations to these papers suffice as an answer? If you
provided me with your general location, I could try to find a
(university) library near you that may carry these journals.

As mentioned in my Clarification Request above, I have been able to
find two definitive papers (co)written by Arthur Peterson on this
topic. The two papers are:


Rosenberg A., Alatary S.D., Peterson A.F. "Safety and efficacy of the
antiseptic Chlorhexidine Gluconate " Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics
, Nov. 1976; 789-793.

Peterson AF, Rosenberg A, Alatary SD: Comparative evaluation of
surgical scrub preparations, Surg. Gynecol. Obstet. 146:63-65 (Jan.)
1978.


As you can see, both of these papers were published in the journal
"Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics" - published out of Chicago.

Apparently, this journal has been discontinued - so these articles
will definitely not be available online. The journal ran from
1905-1993.
