I use outlook express as my email client. Recently,I have been having problems sending out emails. I get the below noted errors. However, when I restart the computer the outgoing email messages go through. What is possibly causing this and how can I remedy this problem? I hate to keep restarting the computer just to send out the emails in the outbox. Error message received: An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mbaid', Server: 'mail.mia.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 imf41bis.bellsouth.net connection refused from [65.80.14.99]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67 |

From this webpage: http://www.ninjabug.org/~beetle/files/outlookexpress.error.codes.html I get the following tag to your error message: 0x800CCC67 SMTP_421_NOT_AVAILABLE Command not available. The SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. You can think of this as the way your computer knows where to send your email messages. I'm guessing that the server name has changed. From what I remember of bellsouth.net, you should be using mail.bellsouth.net for your smtp server. You can change the value by going to outlook express: Tools -> Accounts -> Mail -> select the bell south one -> Properties -> Servers -> Outgoing mail change the value from mail.mai.bellsouth.net to mail.bellsouth.net I hope it works. |

Hi... dumbrhino-ga is right, changing to mail.bellsouth.net may help. You might also verify that the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" checkbox is unchecked on the ADVANCED tab of the outlook express email account properties by opening TOOLS > ACCOUNTS > MAIL(tab) > [highlight bellsouth account] > PROPERTIES(button). It is possible that neither of these steps will correct your problem - given that you don't receive the smtp error immediately after a reboot. I have found on occasion when using outlook express, a mail account can become corrupt. You may also try deleting the mail account that's giving you problems [in TOOLS > ACCOUNTS > MAIL(tab)] - and then recreate it with the following instructions from bellsouth. (link may wrap - sorry) http://support.fastaccess.com/sdccontent/howto/manage_email_outlook_exp.asp?SIID=&problem=Outlook-Express&cat=minor&tpid=&keywords=Outlook-Express&category=E-mail&TITLE=How+to+Set%2Dup+Your+E%2Dmail+Account+in+Outlook+Express+ Bellsouth has a great support page to help you setup many different email clients using their service. You can find it at: Bellsouth Support: http://support.fastaccess.com/sdcuser/asp/portalfront.asp HTH |

perhaps it would help to check your email directly before sending outgoing email? I've used a couple of mail-servers that implemented this protection for additional security, so that checking incoming mail would verify your account, and then you could send outgoing mail from the same IP address for a short amount of time. |

What antivirus program do you use? If you use Norton, turn off the option to scan outgoing messages in Norton's Options. You did not say how you connect to the internet. Do you have a network? Is this a dial up connection? Is it DSL or Cable? When this happens can you verify you are still connected to the internet? Are you able to get to web pages? |
