Question ID: 180210
A company wants to interview me for a software engineering internship.
I've included a description of what they say they're interested in.
The problem is, I have no experience whatsoever with the topics
mentioned in the job description. I know what the terms they mention
mean, but that's about the end of it. Can you find a few sites that
would be good for me to read to be better prepared for the interview,
and maybe have a better idea of how the things mentioned below are
implemented behind the scenes?

"We are looking for someone who has an interest in video and
encryption.
Among other things, we are looking into aspects of digital rights
management as it relates to both business and consumer markets and
applications. We are working on the the MPEG4IP project (an
open-source
MPEG4-over-IP project on sourceforge.net - www.mpeg4ip.net).
We are also investigating other areas related to video over IP and
various video codecs/encoders/decoders, as well as voice over IP."

gremlin-ga,

Thanks for the opportunity to answer this question!

1) Digital Rights Management

At the center of DRM discussions is the Digital Millenium Copyright
Act, introduced in 1998. The following sites represent information on
the DMCA and DRM implementations.

Sklyarov/Adobe/DMCA sites:
http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=2365

Microsoft Palladium: A discussion of Microsoft's Palladium Digital
Rights Management System (EPIC)

IETF IDRM taskforce:
http://www.idrm.org/

MIT's Technology Review DRM Business Article:
http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/innovation10302.asp

2) Video

There are several really interesting projects going on in the video
world right now, as they relate to technology and computing.

FFMPEG: (also contains codec information)
http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net

VideoLAN: video streaming cross-platform
http://www.videolan.org/

Linux Digital Video Page:
http://kino.schirmacher.de/

3) Encryption

Matt Blaze's Cryptography Reference:
http://www.crypto.com/

Applied Encryption, by Bruce Schneier (available from Barnes & Noble,
Amazon, or your local bookseller)

Security and Encryption Links:
http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/links.html

CDT Encryption Issues page:
http://www.cdt.org/crypto/

Best of luck to you in your search. My research was based on Google
terms mentioned above (encryption, DRM business, video over IP,
related combinations etc) and some personal experience.

If you haven't already, please also read the pricing guidelines at:
http://answers.google.com/answers/pricing.html

Generally, your price was not appropriately set for the work required
for this question and you may have more success in the future with
other researchers by setting your price differently.

Thanks!
