I'm starting a new web server business. I'm going to use Windows with
IIS, since I have lots of clients already wanting to be on that
platform. I need to find a good Email server to use.
Althought there are LOTS of email server that run on windows I'm
posting this question to narrow down my choices. I have some very
exact requirements that I would like from the Email software. Whomever
answers this question needs to make sure that any suggested solutions
(recommeded software) will meet my requirements. Not just a listing of
various Email software.
I have used IMail (by Ipswitch) for couple of years, but can't get all
the features I want. I would like to find a new choice that will meet
my requrements better (if possible). Basically I like most everything
I can get from IMail, but need a few additions that are not available,
but I'm hoping some other company will have in their Email product.
My biggest problem is that I need an web interface for my resellers to
manage Email domains. Currently IMail only gives me the choice to be
Admin of entire mail server or a single domain name. I need something
that will allow me to setup accounts where I can have a single person
administrator several domains within their one account. This way they
login one time and add email accounts to any one of their domain
names. Adding additional domain names to their account would probably
still be my control.
Additionally, it would be nice to have a web interface that allows me
to take care of the entire Email server. The more control I can do in
the web interface the better. Like adding spam rules or additional
domain names.
Finally, price does matter. I don't really want something based off
each domain name added. I would also prefer it is has unlimited user
option. Although I probably won't start with more than 100 users, I
may have 50 domains in system for those users (counting the domain
alaises).
I think most items listed below are available in IMail, except the
ability to login and manage multiple domains, without managing entire
email server. This feature is very important to me and why I'm wanting
to find new Email server. I would like everything in one product,
however I have seperated Email server from Webmail to make sure
everything is explained.
Requirments:
Email server:
Support POP3,SMTP, & IMAP4.
SMTP must have AUTH support!!
SSL support for POP3 and SMTP wanted, but not required.
User database in flat file OK, preferred, does not need to
integrate with NT User database.
Anti-virus plugin, able to intergrate with AVG or other Virus
software.
Anti-Spam rules or other spam protection.
Multiple domain name alaises. (Like abc.com, abc.net, and abc.org
all go to same set of users.)
WebMail interface:
Ability to login and manage several domain names, but only those
within the account. (See paragaraph above.)
SSL support required (can use self signed certificates).
IIS integration would be plus, but not required.
Web Calendaring plus, but not required (could be plug-in or addon,
users like it even though 99% don't use it).
WAP (I think this is right? Is ability to display through mobile
phones and alternate displays.) nice, but not required.
Skins on user interface in WebMail. Need ability to have different
look and feel for each domain name. Plus if each user could alter
their own.
I'm starting this Price a little low, but I think someone who has
knowledge of various email software programs may be able to answer
this quickly. If wrong respond and I may change.
