How would I go about locating a lost friend, last known address in
Germany ? He came to Germany from the Czech Republic in about 1983 and
has been living in Germany ever since, but may have gone to the US. 
He is a doctor and was working at a hospital in Germany near to where
he lived. I last had contact with him in about 1993.

Should your friend still be located in Germany, the only thing you
could do would be searching for his name in the telephone directories.
The strict German laws on privacy make it rather impossible to find a
private person by other ways. Of course, he needs to have a listed
phone number.
Google Answers Researchers are not allowed to provide any information
on living private individuals. But if you consider it helpful, I can
provide you the Web adresses of two official, comprehensive German
directories of listed phone numbers. Would you like me to do so?

Most doctors with own practices are listed in the official German
Yellow Pages. In case that you think it is possible that your fried
has a doctor's practice in Germany, I will provide you a link to that
directory.
Also, though there is no central German doctors database, regional
databases exist. I could provide you links to all of them.
