Hello Manitou-ga,

The amount in dollars for catalog sales in the U.S. for the year 2002
is $118 billion dollars according to the Direct marketing Association.

“According to a DMA-commissioned study, direct and interactive
marketing sales in the United States exceeded $2 trillion in 2002,
including $118 billion in catalog sales and $30 billion in sales
generated by the Internet.”

“The DMA is the leading trade association for businesses interested in
interactive and database marketing, with nearly 4,700 member companies
from the United States and 53 other nations. Founded in 1917, its
members include direct marketers from every business segment as well
as the nonprofit and electronic marketing sectors.”

“The DMA's 2002 Economic Impact: U.S. Direct & Interactive Marketing
Today will be available in the spring of 2003.”

Trendsetters states:

“In 2002, U.S. catalog sales were projected to reach $126 billion,
accounting for nearly 3% of the $3.7 trillion in total U.S. retail
spending. That's up 6.8% from $118 billion in catalog sales in 2001
and is more than double the $58 billion spent in 1993.”

Forecasts: U.S. Catalog Sales

“The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has released new data
indicating that catalog sales are continuing to increase at a rate
more than twice that of overall retail growth. The report, which
charted catalog sales for the years 1996 and 2000, and projected sales
for 2001, 2002 and 2006 for both consumer and business-to-business
categories, shows a steady increase in sales for both.”
