Question ID: 181132
Which fortune 1000 companies have UNSUCCESSFULLY applied to U. S.
Customs for "drawback" of duties paid. A "Drawback" is due when an
entity imports something (anything)INTO THE U.S., involves that import in some
process (manufacturing, chemical, etc.) and then proceeds to export the
new resultant. The drawback is the return of the original duty paid
on the importation of the component referred to above.
EXAMPLE: Import A (Foreign) + Item B (Domestic) = Item C (Exported).
DRAWBACK = The duty paid when Import A entered the U.S.
Upon exportation (either by itself or combined with something else) that
duty is refundable.

Hello jritt3-ga.

Interesting question! I've been looking into it, and would appreciate
some clarification of what you're after.

If you're seeking a comprehensive list of every Fortune 1000 company
that's applied for drawback and had that application turned down by
Customs, I doubt that I (or anyone!) can provide such a list.

However, if you're looking for a number -- say ten -- high profile
cases of drawback rejections that have helped establish drawback
precedents, then I think I can help out. If a list of ten such cases,
with brief descriptions and links to more information, would be a
satisfactory answer, please let me know.

Thanks.

Right on! I should have stated that out of the Fortune 1000 (or
Fortune 2000), I am seeking knowledge of which companies (as many as
possible) have UNSUCCESSFULLY applied to U.S. Customs for "drawback."
I provide consulting in this area and would use that information to
find potential clients.
