Question ID: 181167
I would like to know what courses in project management are available
in the Washington D. C. area that would give me the preparation I need
to pass the Project Management Certification exam, given by the
Project Management Institute. Ideally, I would like to also get a
Master's Certificate in Project Management in the process. The
courses could be online or classroom. They could be given by Federal
agencies (preferable since I am a Federal employee), possibly in
conjunction with local universities, or by private companies; and of
course, I would accept stand-alone courses by local universities.
Ideally, I would like to pass exam certification by September. Cost
is a factor since my agency (NIH) is paying. Please rank by best
value, then by quality, then by favorable schedule.

PS To give you a head start, I know of two Federal agencies that offer
Project Management courses, HUD and Veterans. You may follow-up with
Laurie Sealy at HUD on 202-708-0614, and Jackie Berry at Veterans on
703-558-4144.

There are certainly a large number of such courses available in your
area. In order to present you with the best options, could we ask you
to further clarify several of the requirements of the information
you're seeking?

Could you please explain your meaning of "value"? It's such a
subjective term, and we'd like to make sure you reveive the same value
from your Answer as you expect from our course listings. It would also
be advantageous to know what your maximum allowable cost might be, and
if costs are applicable to the just Certification Exam training, or
also the Master's level certification?

What are your quality standards? And what sort of evidence or
information about quality constitutes an acceptable proof?

By favorable schedule, are you referring to successful completion of
the Project Management Certification exam only, or the Master's
Certificate in Project Management as well?

Thanks for your assistance. We want to get you the best possible
information.

<<Could you please explain your meaning of "value"? It's such a

Lowest cost with qualified teachers and excellent course materials.
High pass rate on exam. Good networking and placement possibilities
on Master's program.

<<It would also
be advantageous to know what your maximum allowable cost might be, and
if costs are applicable to the just Certification Exam training, or
also the Master's level certification?>>

$6000 for a Master's Certificate in Project Management, and $2000 for
exam preparation are the maximum costs.
The exam is separate.

<<What are your quality standards? And what sort of evidence or
information about quality constitutes an acceptable proof?

Experience and educational level of instructors. Percentage of
students who pass the exam, ranking of Master's Certificate program.
Extra attention from instructors. Quality of classrooom or online
materials.

<<By favorable schedule, are you referring to successful completion of
the Project Management Certification exam only, or the Master's
Certificate in Project Management as well?>>

I don't want to wait until September to start the Master's Certificate
program. So a program that starts in May and ends in August would be
ideal.
The exam requires 35 hours of classroom participation, so it is easier
to schedule than the Master's Certificate. So the Master's is the
bigger concern.
