Mangosteens are rare in the U.S., so you'll probably need a source in
or near Southeast Asia.
Suntech Thai Intertrading Co. ships mangosteens by air.
Visit their web site [ http://www.fruitsiam.com ] for more
information. Click on "products" for details about their mangosteens.
Or you might try an Australian company called Tropical Fruit Online:
http://www.credc.com/tropicalfruitonline/moredetails.htm
The web page doesn't say whether they ship internationally, but their
contact form does have a space for "country," so they very well might
be able to ship it to you:
http://www.credc.com/tropicalfruitonline/default.htm#order
As indicated in the comments below, Caribvillage.com sells guava. Call
or email them to make sure that it's in season:

I hope this helps. Good luck. |

When I first checked out the websites that you recommended, I was very
excited and hopeful. They looked quite promising, however:
I have contacted http://www.credc.com/tropicalfruitonline/moredetails.htm
and they have responded: "Sorry US Protocols will not let us sent to
you. Cheers Val Hodgson."
I have contacted https://www.caribvillage.com/Market/Market.htm about
their guavas (they do not carry mangosteens) and their response was:
"Sorry, not at this time. Thanks for your interest. Check back again.
John Philip, Caribvillage.com" Also, I have been unable to determine
whether or not the variety of guava they carry is what I am looking
for, since they did not answer that question in their response.
I have contacted both http://www.fruitsiam.com &
http://www.thaitradesource.com/familyexport.html#Top about their
mangosteens (they do not carry guavas) and I have not received any
response (I will provide an update if one is given).
http://www.ititropicals.com/guava.php3. only ships aseptic and frozen
purees and concentrates.
I know these fruits exist within the USA. Friends of mine have said
that they have seen mangosteens for sale from fruit markets in
Chinatown on rare occasions (once every few years). Also, I have read
that guavas of many varieties are grown in Flordia and in California.
Any further assistance you could provide on how I could order these
fruits for my personal consumption (I am not looking to order by the
bushel)would be greatly appreciated.
At present, I am no closer to finding a source to mail order these
exotic fruits than I was when I posted the question. Please help!
Thank you.

For guavas, I've found this wholesaler near San Diego:
http://www.califmall.com/GuavaWsale.html
Contact information:
http://www.califmall.com/GuavaCon.html
According to this article, there are at least 38 guava growers in the
San Diego area:
http://www.nctimes.net/news/102000/d.html
There are also some guava growers in Hawaii. They used to have their
own organization, but now it's apparently been absorbed into a group
called Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers. They might be able to direct you
to possible suppliers. Contact:
Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers

Mangosteens are going to be tougher.
According to this web page, they're hard to find in the U.S. because
their is a prohibition on their import from Asia. I guess that's what
the Australian firm was talking about. It does say that mangosteens
may be imported from the Carribean, but it doesn't offer specifics.
http://www.mangosteens.com/faq.htm
As mentioned on the mangosteens.com page, you might try Harrod's in
London. Contact information for international ordering is on this
page:
http://www.harrods.com/shoppingdefault.asp
Good luck. Let me know how this comes out.

Should have read:
"... there is a prohibition on their import from Asia"
Sorry about that.

Still no success. The contact information for
http://www.califmall.com/GuavaCon.html is useless because the e-mail
address is invalid and the phone number is not correct.
http://www.harrods.com/shoppingdefault.asp does not ship mangosteens
internationally.
I have not yet received a response from
http://www.agrohawaii.com/resources.htm, but I am aware that there are
strict import regulations on fruit and vegetables from Hawaii, so I
don't expect too much from them.
I have also attempted to contact a website that I found,
http://www.cyberstreet.com/sunburst/, but the website has not been
updated since 1996 and the listed phone number does not appear to be
correct.
Although I appreciate the assistance you have provided, it has not
proved to be "fruitful." Please provide a valid source for mail
ordering these fruits and confirm it before posting the links. I have
spent way too much time writing to the sources you provided so far,
only to find that they cannot do what I want or they don't respond to
my inquiries.
I will attempt to contact all the sites which did not respond to my
initial inquire, a second time, but I am not going to hold my breath
(especially since you informed me of the ban on mangosteens imported
from asia and the sites are located there). I will keep you updated
if there are any changes.
Thanks & good luck on the research.

I just got off the telephone with Randy at SRI SIAM Tropicals in
Vista, California. The telephone number (760)758-2494 works. And Randy
indicated that the fax number (760)758-5074 is still valid as well. He
said that they're at the very end of the December-May guava growing
season, but he still has a small quantity of fruit left. He will ship
through the mail. I asked him about mangosteens, and he said that he
didn't know anyone who grew them. However, he thought that there were
a few growers in Hawaii, so don't give up hope on the contacts listed
at http://www.agrohawaii.com/resources.htm .
Good luck.
