A year or so ago, GOOGLE had a story about a interview I did back in
the early 1990's about the history of BEER. Don Ray, a friend of mine,
was also featured in the interview. If I remember right, it was from
the Des Moines Register Paper, but I'm not sure. I see it is no
longer on your
site, can you tell me how to get it back?
Thanks:
Craig Gockel

Craig,

If you have the URL address of the article on the Internet back when
you found it, I might still be able to find it for you.

Unfortunately, the Des Moines Register's electronic archive is not
currently available (it is probably still in development).

However, their house library can possibly assist you in obtaining a
copy of the article you are seeking:

"Library requests and back issues
The Register's library can help you find articles and photos from the
Register's archives. The library offers the following services:
Mail service -- No research involved
Costs include charges for back issues, as listed on the right, as well
as a $3.50 service fee and first class postage or United Parcel
Service costs.
   Research fees
Clippings files are searched for articles published before 1984. The
fee is $1 per minute.

After 1984, articles are on computer index. File search per subject is
$12.50.

Up to ten copies of actual newspapers are available at copy costs. For
more than ten copies, time charges will be added.
   Copy Costs
Microfilm Copies/Photocopies - $1 per page
   Photos
Only photos that appeared in the newspaper and were taken by Register
staff photographers are available for sale. Not all photos are
available. Click here for more information about photo requests.

Orders are processed in the order they are received. We reserve the
right to refuse any project we think is too elaborate or extensive for
this service. For requested rush orders, the research fee will be
doubled after a minimum of $10 has been met.

For more information, call (800) 247-5346, extension 8270, or (515)
284-8270. Payment may be sent to:

The Des Moines Register
attn: Cash Department
P.O. Box 957
Des Moines, Iowa 50304"

This page also contains an e-mail request form.

I hope that this information will assist you in obtaining exactly what
you need.

Hi Craig,

If it's in the Des Moines Register, then I'm not going to be able to
find it as none of the libraries or databases I have access to, either
have or index that particular publication.

However, let's not give up hope yet :)

Do you remember any other details about the piece? Other people who
were featured in the article. Particular events that made it into the
piece? Any details you can give us would help.

Regards,
luciaphile-ga

Craig --

Hmm -- I see that you like the Czech Budweiser Budvar. But here's
where I checked to see if the article appears:
*  Internet (naturally).
* Infotrac: a database of newspaper + magazine articles.
* Proquest Newspapers + Magazines: my library doesn't have a great
database of Des Moines Register articles; it's possible that
Luciaphile or one of the other researchers has access to a better
database.

On the other hand, the Register's now a Gannett newspaper and they
generally have very poor online access to their intellectual property.

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA
