Are you asking these two questions: 1) Who do Islamic terrorist groups
threaten?; 2) What threat do Islamic terrorist groups pose to
international relations in general?

When you say, "Who do Islamic terrorist groups threaten", do you mean,
what kinds of people and entities do they make threats against? Or do
you mean, what kinds of people and entities do they pose a threat to
(in other words a threat to the power those people and entities have)?
 Perhaps you mean something else?

I'm still not certain what your question is exactly.

Is this your basic question: How and why do Islamic terrorist groups
threaten peaceful international relations?

If so, how long an answer do you expect?

IF YOU CONSIDER 3 PAGES IS TOO MUCH. 1 OR TWO OR EVEN GOOD REFERENCES
AND LINKS WOULD BE ENOUGH.

THANK YOU

I feel that I should step aside, in order to allow other Researchers
to try to answer your question. It's too overwhelming a topic for me.
Because there are so many perspectives on Islamic terrorism -- and so
many ways to research the topic -- it's difficult for me to narrow
down the possibilities and give you the best material. Perhaps a
Researcher who has more familiarity with this subject -- or a better
idea for how to deal with the large amount of material -- will give
you a better answer.

Hi! Thanks for the question.

Since you have indicated that good references will be enough to the
basic question “How and why do Islamic terrorist groups threaten
peaceful international relations?”. I will now answer the question.

I will provide small snippets from the articles that answer your
questions but I highly recommend that you read them in their entirety
to get a better coverage.

Some documents are also in PDF format so you will need a reader like
Adobe Acrobat to access the file. In case you haven’t installed it yet
in your PC you may download it here
(http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html).

Our first link provides a good overview on how wide the magnitude of
this threat to international relations have become. Such attacks and
threats have led to what the article calls as a US-led unipolar
international system.

“’Is the September 11 attack an unmistakable harbinger of a clash of
civilizations between the United States and Islamic world?” and “Will
the new anti-terrorism international order emerging from September 11
be stepping stones that lead to a US-led unipolar international
system?’”

“The first question deserves particular attention since it directly
relates to future quality of life for all nations including the United
States. This is why the international community has concentrated
attention on how to separate the Islamic terrorists from ordinary
Muslims and how to prevent the American war in Afghanistan from
escalating into a clash between American and Islamic civilizations.”

“The second question draws the attention of students of international
relations. The September 11 terrorist attack and the American war in
Afghanistan heralded an abrupt conclusion of the post-Cold War era and
rapid emergence of a new international order based on anti-terrorism
cooperation.”

Other international relations dilemmas were mentioned in this study.

“On one hand the anti-terrorism order looks firm given the quick
military success in the war in Afghanistan, overwhelming diplomatic
victory that isolated Osama bin Laden, and compartmentalization of
Islam that makes an immediate anti-Western solidarity unlikely.”

“Islamic sentiment with potential to develop into anti-Americanism and
the continuing Israel-Palestine conflict as a source of Islamic
terrorism are further burden.”

Our next article meanwhile has some interesting points we should
consider as well as regards to international relations.

“The monstrous terrorist attack on the WTC in New York and the
Pentagon in
Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001 is perceived widely as a
war-like strike against western civilization launched by Islamic
fundamentalists.”

“In addition, one should not overlook the fact that the debate over
terrorism has intensified competition within the Muslim world over the
issue of which country should be the political leader in the group of
Muslim countries.”

An example of the unipolar effects could be seen in South East Asia.

“Last week's terrorist attack in the US is expected to foster closer
co-operation among south-east Asian countries - Malaysia, Indonesia,
the Philippines and Singapore - that believe they face a common threat
from Islamic militancy.”

“Fears of radical Islam had already led to several important recent
political agreements in the region, which has one of the world's
largest Muslim populations, with 210m followers. "Political cohesion
in south-east Asia is suddenly more evident than it has been for
years," says Christopher Wood, regional strategist with ABN-Amro in
Hong Kong.”
