The password "swordfish" is featured in the Marx Brothers' classic
1932 movie "Horse Feathers."

Here, from one of my favorite sites, WhyADuck.com, is the text of the
famous scene in which "swordfish" is used as a password at a
"speakeasy" bar:

Nearly 70 years after the Marx Brothers filmed "Horse Feathers," a
2001 movie entitled "Swordfish" (which involved high-tech computer
hacking in its plot) used the slogan "Once you know the password you
can go anywhere" in its advertising campaign.

My Google search strategy:

"horse feathers" + "swordfish"

It's always a pleasure to answer a question that reminds me of a funny
movie! If anything above is unclear, or if more information is needed,
please request clarification before rating my answer; I'll be glad to
offer further assistance.

Howdy fromthecoast-ga!

Here is even more about the (second only to the "Why a
duck?" routine) funny "Swordfish" schtick.

The Cheshire Catalyst site at:

http://www.cheshirecatalyst.com/

has the following (and more) to say about the "Swordfish"
routine:

"A resolution passed by the Cartoonists Association of
America states that any time a password is given in a
comic in the newspaper, it shall be the word "Swordfish".
Now you know why."

The Cheshire Catalyst site has a link to the EarthStation1
website which has an audio file of the bit:

http://www.earthstation1.com/Marx_BrosFiles/HF_Swordfish.wav

More information on "Horse Feathers" as well as "Swordfish"
can be found at the Internet Movie Database website:

"Horse Feathers" - http://us.imdb.com/Title?0023027
"Swordfish" - http://us.imdb.com/Title?0244244

When the "Swordfish" movie was going to be released, the
Warner Brothers website at:

http://www.operationswordfish.com/

had a contest where one to figure out a series of passwords,
etc. in order to enter.

Alas, none of the passwords were the (obvious) "swordfish".

Hope this adds to pinkfreud's already excellent answer.

Looking Forward, denco
