Hi I located a table with a comparison of *household* expenditures for Ottawa and Toronto for the year 2001. This table includes expenditures in the following categories: Food Shelter Household operation Household furnishings and equipment Clothing Transportation Health care Personal care Recreation Reading materials and other printed matter Education Tobacco products and alcoholic beverages Games of chance (net amount) Miscellaneous Personal income taxes Personal insurance payments and pension contributions Gifts of money and contributions Would you be interested in the above information? Thanks --Bobbie7-ga |

Thanks. I am familiar with this table from Statistics Canada. It gives only an indication of what the answer should be. But I do appreciate your suggestion because the table is indeed suggestive. |

You are actually quite close -- if one used the category of "recreation" as a proxy for restaurant meals, and looked up municipal budgets to find out total property taxes as a revenue source -- that would give an indication of the answer I seek. I was looking for a per capita figure, but per household would probably do. Stats Can probably has both household and total population figures to divide into the property tax collected. To be comparable one should only use residential property taxes, not business or commercial. |
