Hello Raefe,
Regarding your question, it would seem safe to say that there are no
other *serious* consultancies providing political risk analysis in
Australia apart form the one you mentioned. There may be some
individual consultants, but there would seem to be no
indigenous/independent Australian firms (rather than offices of
established non-Australian companise).
Once one discounts the types of companies you mentioned, I think that
you will find that the field is *extremely* small at a global level.
As a rough estimate, there are likely to be only 30-40 companies
claiming to do this work internationally. If you narrow this down to
ones that are rated seriously by outsiders and are well-known (usually
measured in terms of how regularly they are cited in the media), you
would probably find only 10 top flight companies. With a few
exceptions, most of these are based in the United Kingdom or the
United States. One in Australia would therefore seem about right!
You identified Control Risks as one of the main players at the global
level. I would personally rate Oxford Analytica (www.oxan.com) as
probably the best overall provider of global political risk analysis
services. Control Risks is certainly the market leader in security
advice and assistance, but for straight political risk analysis,
Oxford Analytica is generally seen as the world leader. As far as
companies with a specifically Asian orientation, which I would guess
any Australian firm would have, perhaps the most established is PERC
(www.asiarisk.com), which is based in Hong Kong.
