I am a conditional permanent resident of the US. I was granted that
status two years ago, due to my marriage to a US Citizen. As we were
less than two years married yet, I was given this status for two
years, and told that once that
time is up, I would have to petition for removal of conditions.

Those two years are now up. I have petitioned for removal of
conditions on the
first day I was eligible to, Jan 17. I mailed in my application in a
registered letter with delivery confirmation, so I know they have
received it. The law says that within two months, they should have
sent me a receipt, and a temporary extension until my request is
adjudicated. They have not done anything, in fact, have not even
cashed my check. My Green card will expire in two weeks. I contacted
the central customer services of the BCIS, (the successor of the INS),
and they said I should go to the "local" BCIS office. The Central
customer service does not have access to individual files. I faxed to
the Service center that is supposedly processing my request, but they
have not replied. Calling is impossible. So I will go to my "local"
office (full day trip) Does someone know what the local office
typically does in a situation like this? Will they give me an
extension? For how long?

Please answer only if you understood the specifics (this is not just a
green card renewal; this is removal of conditions).

Thanks, Miklos
