I need to know the arguments for and against social work practice
being based on research evidence. And to what extent might this
undermine social workers' discretion to select and apply theories.

Hello purplepit-ga,

Could you please give a little more information about what you're
looking for? What might be a social work practice that's based on
research evidence? I'm not clear on why research evidence is tied to
social workers' discretion to choose whatever theories they want to
apply. Could you give us the context of your question? Is this a
homework assignment? The more information you can share, the more
likely that we will be able to answer your question. Thanks.

Hello there,

Thanks for the prompt reply to my question. Let me clarify as
follows:

I think this question is in regards to evidence based practice. Here
is exactly how it is set;

"Critically consider the arguements for and against social work
practice being based on research evidence. To what extent might this
undermine social workers' discretion to select and apply theories.
Answer with reference to the Department of Health's guindance on
assessing children in need".
