I'm a member of a non-profit organization. Recently, another member began selling an item, has people write checks to our non-profit, then deposits the checks in his own bank account, keeping the profit. He originally wanted our treasurer to deposit the checks to our organization's bank account and then cut him a check, but the treasurer refused. Is what he's doing now legal? |

In many countries this is a sign of Fraud. He is using your organization's name without permissions of any sort. In short. Phone the police, and get the president of your organization ready to file charges. http://www.t-tlaw.com/gr-03.shtml The above site talks about Nonprofit/Charities and charitable misrepresentation.. which is VERY visible in this case. From what I've seen on Google concerning the above issue.. It's against the law in just about every state (note: I did not check all 50, DC and the associated territories, etc) in the US. |
