Pedigree Dog Food is a brand of dog food made by Kal Kan Foods, Inc. 
Kal Kan is headquartered in Vernon, California, USA.

Kal Kan is a subsidiary of Mars, Inc., an American company best known
for making candy bars such as Snickers and Milky Way.  Kal Kan was
founded in 1936 as the Dog Town Packing Company. The company changed
its name to Kal Kan in 1957.  Mars bought Kal Kan in 1968.

Kal Kan has been using the Pedigree brand name for dog food since

Here is a brief summary of the history of Kal Kan:

"Kal Kan dates back to 1936, when Clement L. Hirsch founded what was
then Dog Town Packing Company. The company's first location was in
Vernon, California, where it is currently headquartered.
During World War II, the Company became Victory Packing Company,
supplying food for U.S. war dogs, while at the same time expanding its
distribution to all of Southern and Northern California. Its
introduction of a canned all-meat pet food in the 1940's helped to
pioneer the high quality pet food business as it is known today. In
1957, the Company changed its name to Kal Kan Foods, Inc. It continued
to grow and prosper during the early sixties, introducing new products
while increasing distribution on existing Kal Kan brands.
In 1968, Mars, Incorporated acquired Kal Kan and began to apply the
extensive expertise they developed in pet food outside the United
States to the domestic market. With support from Mars, Kal Kan
established a pattern for growth into the Midwest and East Coast
markets. Today, Kal Kan has five manufacturing facilities and is the
fastest growing pet food manufacturer in the United States. Its
quality pet care products for dogs and cats are marketed under
PEDIGREE, CESAR, WHISKAS, and SHEBA brands."

I should also mention that the Pedigree Petfoods that operates in the
UK is also owned by U.S.-based Mars, Inc.
