I have a digital movie and I would like to embed it into a website so
that no plugins are needed in order to view it. Also, I would like to
prevent people from easily coping the movie. I am also looking to
secure pictures on websites as well. What options are available to me
in order to accomplish this (movies with no plugins, movies with
security, and pictures with security)?

Hello mahrens,

When you say "plugin" does that include plugins such as seperate media
players? (Real, Windows Media, Quicktime etc.) It is possible to
secure movies somewhat, but not without flaws and doing so might also
not be cheap.

As for pictures, there really is no way to prevent anyone from copying
anything they see on your screen (a simple Print Screen and Paste into
Microsoft Paint is just one example). There are methods you can employ
to protect your images, but before those suggestions are given to you,
you will need to accept that they will hardly protect you from the
experienced user.

If you want to prevent pictures from being copied by the end user,
there's unfortunately not much of a chance (even when you certainly
can make life harder for some users). You can however implement things
such as copyright information text in the picture, or watermarks.

As for embedding the movie, you might want to go with one of the
popular formats (RAM, RM, AVI, MPEG, MOV). You cannot guarantee the
visitor has the players to view the files, but there's a good chance.
