Yes, there are home business opportunities that are not scams. Having
a home business means that you are self employed. There are many
opportunities to become self employed that won't have you paying
someone else for that privilege.

Three points to keep in mind:

1. To really succeed, you can't depend on someone else's plan.

2. Home businesses will nearly always cost something to get started.

3. YOUR home business opportunity is whatever you make it.

Most of the scams we see were actually good ideas in the beginning,
but someone discovered that selling the idea to gullible seekers was
more lucrative than the original idea.

If you find a scam that looks interesting, see what makes it so, and
apply the good idea with your own practical solution. The only caution
is that there are no "get rich quick" schemes that are valid. Any good
idea will take a certain amount of work and commmitment to do.

To create your own opportunity, pay attention to the ideas you find in
scams. The "work at home" crafty things, where you make jewelry or sew
aprons, is basically a good idea. The key is that you need to find
your own market. (This could be consignment stores, fairs and craft
shows, home shows, etc.)

If you pull a blank there, think of what you enjoy doing and what
you're good at. Sometimes they're the same thing; sometimes not. Make
a list of the things you enjoy doing and don't worry if it seems silly
- you can sort it out later. Then make a list of the things you are
good at doing. Try to match the two - for instance, if you like
needlecrafts and create your own patterns, you could learn to make
patterns to sell to crafts magazines. Or if you love tinkering with
your car but don't want to become a mechanic, why not offer to help
others with their show cars (for a price)?

Bottom line: Yes, there are opportunities, and lots of them, and you
don't have to buy them from someone else, you can create them
yourself.
