My sister took a dress-making/sewing class in Silicon Valley last
year. The class that she took was at the Santa Clara Adult Education
Center on Benton Street.
Here is a course description:
"Beginning Sewing
Construct a simple garment in this beginners class. Learn to read a
pattern, select, cut and care for fabric; understand the sewing guide,
learn the basics of our machines, or your own if you bring it. Field
trip to fabric store will be scheduled. New students must attend first
class. $3 lab fee due at pre-reg. Pre-registration required.

West Valley College in Saratoga offers a number of fashion courses.
They offer fasion design, patternmaking, etc. These courses may be
taken on a noncredit basis. Course are offered at both day and
evening times. Some of the courses that are offered during the day
during the Spring semester seem to be offered in evening in the Fall,
and vice versa.
