Hi ronaldsr-ga,
It would help if you could provide us with some more information
about your setup. How do you connect to the net? Dialup modem or
otherwise? When exactly did this problem start occuring? Did you
install any software/hardware recently that could have caused this
problem?
Meanwhile, here are a bunch of suggestions for you to try:
   - See if you are using a proxy server or not. If you are, make sure
its properly configured. If you don't, then make sure that the proxy
server option in Internet Explorer>tools Menu>Connections>LAN Settings
is unchecked.
   - The problem may be due to the corruption of your Internet Files
cache. you can find instructions to recover from it here:
             - Windows XP From A to Z
This page also contains links to pages which discuss
other reasons for this problem. be sure to check them out.
   - See if you can ping Internet servers. Goto Start Menu > Run, and
type
          ping 64.58.76.226 -t
      What do you see?
   - Try cleaning your hosts file. Goto your
'Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\' folder and rename the file 'hosts' to
'oldhosts.bak'. Restart IE and try accessing the net now.

Hope this helps. Try out these suggestions and post your results here.

Howdy ronaldsr-ga!

What version of Internet Explorer are you using?

Upgrading to the latest version (6.x) might take care
of the problem.
