Computer software Q:while trying to install a scanner (epson
perfection 2400 photo) I get the following error message: "an error
occured while parsing command line arguments or reading setup.ini
Library not registered"
As a result, the installation failed. The Epson technician I talked
to, said the problem was with my Windows system. It is Windows
Millenium, facory installed on my Dell Dimension 4100. A dell
assistent told me I would have to empty my computer entirely and
reinstall windows. Surely there must be a less drastic way. But what??

You could try just reinstalling Windows. I rather doubt that emptying
your computer is likely to help.

Are you sure that you are installing the correct driver for WinME? It
is possible to over-install ME and then install your Epson driver.
Just make sure to turn off unnecessary programs and your antivirus
before before you over-install. Also, make sure to install the correct
Epson driver for WinME.

I'm a fellow Windows ME sufferer with a Dell product and they ALWAYS
suggest you fdisk the thing and start over. There are a couple of
things I try when I have problems installing software, like running
scandisk and defragmenting the harddrive(and both of those things have
to be completed in "safe mode" because of a notorious flaw in the
Windows ME operating system), and I usually copy software installation
disks to my hard drive and then go into safe mode to install it
because I get weird device driver conflicts and other odd error
messages if I don't. I'd definitely try those things before anything
more drastic.
