I am seekinging the name of the author and the title of the written
work in which the following quotation appears:

"Of all the people who deserve to be remembered as heroes, one third
are remembered as heroes, one third are remembered as villains, and
one third are forgotten.  Of all the people who deserve to be
remembered as villains, one third are remembered as heroes, one third

I believe that I read this passage in an anthology of pre-
20th-Century English literature.
