Dear rottenrodney-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

I’ve worked on this for quite a while and struggled to drag up
everything I could about the person you are looking for. I’ll tell you
up front that I did not find the exact information you are looking for
but I am almost certain I found a number of people who probably know
much more about him than has been published publicly.

In my research I found only one EARNEST EUGENE ALLDREDGE born 12 JAN
1892 in Hinckley, Millard County, Utah to William Isaac ALLDREDGE
and Martha Lizette (nee THEOBALD) ALLDREDGE (married 24 DEC 1889)

William ALLREDGE was the son William B Alldredge and Sarah Malinda
Brock (the grandparents of Earnest Alldredge.) I mention this only to
give you more research capabilities should you try to locate more
about Earnest by searching this family line.

LDS FAMILY SEARCH
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=100134721048&lds=1&region=11&regionfriendly=North+America&frompage=99

Interestingly, there are others who are also searching this family
tree and they probably know much more about this individual:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=120346342&lds=2&region=-1&regionfriendly=&frompage=99

Much more is to be learned of this family because William B Allredge
(Earnest’s grandfather) was a Mormon and was married at least three
times, remarrying (or polygamously married) to sisters or perhaps
cousins. You can contact the submitter on this and probably get a
great deal more information about that too.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=120346638

In addition are these posts (either or neither of which could be from
you I would imagine) of others who are also seeking, and may already
have, this information. At any rate you can contact these people and
see if the work has already been done:

http://www.geocities.com/~gensearcher/4geobook.html
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.alldredge/63

As you can see, these types of relationships make tracing a genealogy
very difficult. However, while I found no mention of Earnest in this
research, a great deal of this family is recorded. Since they were
originally of the Mormon faith and Mormons were known for recording
their histories, you will get quite a bit of insight into this
family’s life. You will undoubtedly find the names of others who can
also be traced, one of which may very well contain a history of
Earnest as well.

(To help clarify things, this story begins with Isaac who was the
father of William B who was the father of William Isaac who was the
father of Earnest Alldredge)

A couple of this to mention:

First, I realized that the links I provided that have email addresses
to people you can contact will require you to register for
ANCESTRY.COM. I am registered and didn't think much of it at the time
I found these people for you. The good news is that registration is
free and all you have to do it sign up to gain access:

http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:527477&id=I26752134
http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2013464&id=I2246

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?ERNEST::alldredge::63.html

This is not really a big deal but I didn't want you to be shocked when
you clicked on them and found that they wouldn't work for you. They
*DO* work but you have to be signed up to make them work.

The other thing is this...upon searching further I found this document
wich lists people in a Gedcom file:

http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/tarrant/vitals/births/1939/tarb0139.txt

Among them is ERNEST ALLDREDGE (speeling of first name is a bit
different) married to SARAH LU MALICOAT. Together they had a daughter
NINA PEARL ALLDREDGE born 11/06/1939. This could possibly be the
ALLDREDGE you are looking for more information about. The file has a
contact email if you want to try and run this information down.

I'm still working and occassionally finding more data. Whether it's
useful or not remains to be seen. Just on the off change that either
you or someone else might have gotten the wrong information, I
searched a soundex database and found this:

http://utstcess.dced.state.ut.us/NEWBURIALS/SilverStream/Pages/pgLongOne.html?CEMETERY_ID=SU0200&BURIAL_ID=1061

Note the name similarities in this person's first name spelling and
the minor difference in his last name spelling:

EARNEST ELDREDGE born 0/0/1887, Coalville, Utah (the date 0/0 often
means exact date of birth is estimated)
Buried 7/31/1907
Grave Location: Coalville City Cemetery, E_ 9_ 3_4

Dear rottenrodney-ga;

By 1920 Earnest is no longer listed in the US Census with his father
William Isaac Alldredge. John, Earnest’s younger brother, is still
living at home at the age of 25. Ennis, a much younger brother, is
only 7 years old. A daughter “Juanita” (probably Wanda) is listed as
being away at “school”.
http://gen.gserver.com/html/ut14aa.htm

This doesn’t provide any information about Earnest at all so I decided
to try and pursue some other names like those of his siblings to see
if I could find any living relatives who might have the information
you are needing. It was very difficult to establish whether or not any
of the people I was finding were actually related to Earnest in any
way, until I ran across this…

Now I should warn you, this is difficult to read and there are some
photos here that are hard to look at.

I found the family of Earnest’s brother Ennis. It appears that Ennis,
who died at the age of 83, had advanced Alzheimer’s disease. His case
received national media attention in 1996 from the show “60 Minutes”
because of the “living will” and “right to die” issues. His medical
condition was documented in great detail and photos were taken of his
decline and demise. His burial was handled by Nichol's Mortuary. From
what I gather, Ennis had only been married to the woman who was his
wife at this time for seven years.

I assumed that Ennis’ son, who is named in the documents, was still
living (and he is) so I contacted that family via telephone to see
what else I could find out. I was told that they had done an extensive
geology on their family as members of LDS often do. It appears that
Earnest Alldredge basically disappeared from the day he “ran away” and
no one in the Alldredge family ever heard from his again, but
continued to search for him in vain. A few years ago, when Earnest
would have turned 100 years old, the family was authorized by LDS to
do his temple work which, you may or may not know, simply establishes
that he lived, that he was part of the Alldredge Family and that he
died in the Mormon faith. Nothing else is known by the family or is
expected to be learned.

CASE OF ENNIS ALLDREDGE
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/ennis_alldredge_hosp_course.htm
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/ennis_chronochart.htm
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/enalnaa1.htm

ENNIS ALLDREDGE’S LIVING WILL
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/ennis_alldredge_Living_Will.htm

Ennis’ doctor, Psychiatrist Robert Weitzel, appears to have gathered
some unwelcome publicity himself in 2000 when “60 Minutes” did a story
on his arrest, highly publicized trial and sentencing to 15 years in
prison for the wrongful death in a number of elderly patients. He was
acquitted on appeal on December 05, 2002.
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/Sixty_Minutes_Looks_at_Weitzel_Case.htm
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/
From this document, it appears at least, that Ennis Alldredge might
have been one of the patients that Weitzel was accused (wrongfully, it
now appears) of mistreating. (*warning somewhat graphic)
http://www.weitzelcharts.com/enalphotonew.htm

Again, I realize that this provides nothing in the way of news about
Earnest Alldredge other than the work has been done extensively and
nothing has developed in almost one hundred years. I hope though that
it in some way serves to bring you closer to this family’s history and
at least let you know that pursuing this particular person’s history
may in fact be futile since many years and many other people before
you have been exhausted on the effort.

your answers, except for your addendum of 1 April is well known to me.
my interests are since then; i.e. what happened to him--did he serve
in the Canada military; was he a worker on the Golden Gate bridge as a
painter; and, if not in my original question, did he travel to
Australia? Except for Australia the above should be public record.
bytheby: my mom-in-law is a niece of Earnest. if i understand your
full documentation nothing more is available and i should accept that
as fact and forget about any other information forthcoming. if so i
will approve payment in full of your efforts in my behalf regarding
this thorny question

Dear rottenrodney-ga;

I honestly believe that is indeed the case in this particular
instance. While nothing is totally impossible, because the Latter Day
Saints (LDS) pursure their geneaology with such meticulous research
and documentation, I can only assume that all than can possibly be
done to solve this riddle has been done. The vast majority of family
tree research is done my interested amateurs, hobbyists and family
members but such is not the case in the instance. Unfortunately, in my
estimation and through extensive research I can only reasonably
conclude that given the passage of 100 years of unproductive attempts
by the most experienced genealogists, if it were possible to learn
anything at all of Earnest Alldrege's fate it would certainly have
been documented by now.

Remarkably, there is an Ernest Eugene Alldredge whose birth and death
dates are known; but since this information indicates a different
family than Earnest Eugene Alldredge of Utah, it is almost certainly a
coincidence.

It should perhaps be noted that there is no Earnest/Ernest/Eugene
AL(L)DREDGE/AL(L)DRIDGE listed as having served in the CEF during WW1,
in the CEF database accessible from the National Archives of Canada
web site, at:
