The illustrious Cecil Adams says that it can be done: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a3_363.html So where can I find a photograph documenting a cow tipping? (Please: no trashy Photoshop fakes.) BTW: Cecil -- you're a chump!!! | |

Dear 4103, Not unlike Google Answer Researchers, cows could be tipped, too. This is not where the similarities end: "I have been swept into the craze. Like all good, hollow-eyed addicts, I seek to drag my friends to the same ruinous end. In short, I have discovered Googlewhacking. It may be even more fun than cow tipping, if that is possible." (Source: http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:JTiAQo1Iw1wC:www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl%3Fmsg_id%3D0087jv+%22cow+tipping%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8). At least three schools exist regarding cow tipping: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The bad news, is of course, that cow tipping exists only in the minds of urban dwellers, who would like to think that people in the farms do something else than playing with their sheep. There are several cow tipping sites that discuss this issue to a length. The Most Urban of All Urban Legends - http://www.skeptic.com/jr5-09.html http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/cowtipping.htm also doubts it although http://em-ntserver.unl.edu/Mechanics-Pages/Matt-Semke/The%20Statics%20of%20Cow%20Tipping.htm claims it might be possible to more than one person - physically speaking. Kids online - http://www.kidsonlinemagazine.com/sports/cowtipping.html and http://www.hippy.freeserve.co.uk/farmerg.htm also contain some kind of rebutal. As for the former, I must agree, from my acquitance with Welsh cows: they are very much alert and scared, and they leave their marks everywhere - it doesn't smell so good. However, and that's probably the ugly, some sites have (non photoshop!) proves of some cow tipping going on: http://homepage.mac.com/judiandnick/Natalie14/Pages/Image25.html shows a picture of a baby tipping a cow http://www.annshallmark.com/cowparade/26252.jpg - shows a statue of a tipped cow http://www.sacrao.org/sacrao/mosispics.asp - Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (SACRAO) had a whole happening of Cow Tipping. Further sites (some with photoshop cheap tricks): http://www.blueneptune.com/~maznliz/tipcow.shtml http://www.littlejoe.org/cowtipping.htm http://www.nwlink.com/~timelvis/cowtip.html http://home.online.no/~kaaaaa/vilsuals/visuals-cowtip/cowtip.html http://members.aol.com/danthecowman/cows.htm http://www.cs.umb.edu/~eugene/cow.html http://totl.net/Urban/cow.php Last but not least, and in order to answer your question, there are some web based evidences on cow tipping. The good news, is that you could tip a cow: - http://www.maximumedge.com/ecards/card.cgi?action=preview&type=picture&PICTURES=HUMOR/COWTIPPING.GIF A user in a "2 Everything" node on cow tipping advices: "Remember to tip your cow 15% for standard service, or 20% or more for exceptional service. Cows don't get paid minimum wage and depend on your tips to pay the bills." (Source: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?lastnode_id=124&node_id=140225). However, my answer to your question: as much as possible. Moooo-guru-ga |

Hi there, The illustrious Cecil should know better. Yes, indeed, cows can be tipped. However, they SHOULDN'T be tipped. They can be seriously injured - broken legs for one thing. And if said moo *isn't* injured, he's going to take off after the tipper and run him over with extreme prejudice. Don't let their size and apparent stupidity fool you. They run like the wind when provoked AND they BITE. --Missy <--bovineophile |

This is all I know about cow tipping: Don't let the term "sirloin tips" fool ya. My friend Vickie used to be a waitress at International House of Cowpats, and she says that cows are lousy tippers. |

Miss Manners in her famous book, "Missed Your Manners, Mister?", and her sensational sequel, "Mean Missy Missed Manners Means Messy Mores" reminds us that tipping is usually at 15 to 18 percent. However, if you tip an American cow the standard 15 to 18 percent, they tend to take it personally and use their tips to resolve their beef. The only place tipping 15 to 18 percent really works is in Pisa, Italy, where they have gone so far as to have erected a monument to cow tipping, the world-famous Leaning Cow of Pisa. If you stiff a cow (and this is no bull - I'm milking it for all it's worth), you're liable to become the object of its moooving ire and it cud just toss you like a salad with the tips of its horns. Besides, every aggie worth his weight in animal husbandry (well, in the case of cows, animal wifery) will tell you that one should always tip a cow 20 percent just to be sure! I certainly hope this clears the matter up! Serenata |

pssst, buddy, take a tip from me. It's an udder disgrace. They *never* listen to any tips I ever gave them... and I gave them some good ones. That's why you've never seen an independently wealthy cow in a bull market... |

I would take Serenata's advice. If you tip a cow more than 20% there is a good chance it may fall over. Now there is a breed of cattle where the bulls have some amazing abilities, especially during earthquakes. During the Northridge quake a few years ago in California, a roving reporter was watching a few of these bulls in a field near LA. They were gently rocking back and forth during the ground shaking. The reporter went up to the herd to try and find out what was going on. He decided to ask one of them. The lead animal responded "Webulls wobble but we don't fall down." Oh well, if you are not familiar with a particular toy, it will make no sense. |

It appears that Google Answers Researchers know very little about tipping a cow, but we are rather adept at throwing the bull. :-D |
