The recommended way to connect this equipment would be as follows:

Cable in -> TiVo (RF In port)
RF out (from TiVo) -> RF Splitter (pick this up at Radio Shack) -> RF
In 1 and 2 on TV
Composite video and audio out on TiVo (RCA jacks - yellow, white, red)
-> HT System
Composite video and audio out on VCR (RCA jacks - yellow, white, red)
-> HT system
Home Theatre System Component out (labelled Y/Pb/Pr perhaps) -> TV

The setup above would allow your TiVo to record programs normally most
of the time. However, as you probably know, while TiVo is recording,
you can't use the Picture-in-picture function of your television.
Therefore, we will take the RF Output from the TiVo and send it to the
2 inputs on the television. Now, when you want to watch
picture-in-picture programming (note: this will be Live TV only), you
can put your TiVo in standby mode (Messages & Setup>Standby from TiVo
Central), then use your TV's remote to tune channels and perform
picture-in-picture viewing.

Normally, you will not need the television remote. After you have made
the above connections, tune your television to it's component input
(see your manual for exact details on how to do this), and then you
should be able to use your Home Theatre system's remote to change
sources between one input (TiVo), the other input (VCR), and it's own
DVD player. You will also use it's remote to control sound from your
system.

You may want to consider calibrating your system if you have not
already done so - it helps your picture a great deal. Check the ISF
website (http://www.imagingscience.com/) for more information about
it.
