Hi,

I have a topic that needs further exploration relating to the historic
penetration of Internet browsers since the inception of the consumer
Internet.

1. Since the beginning of the Internet, what has been the overall
Number of Internet browser Downloads:

>by year
>by browser e.g. Netscape etc.

2. It would be helpfull to understand what number were downloaded vs.
what came preinstalled on a new computer.

I have read through a previous reponse on Google Answers referenced
below, but it did not provide the detail that I am looking for.

I hope you have better luck!

Thanks!

mangoman -

Thanks for your question.
Downloads may be really difficult to come by - how about market share by year?
Probably able to dig up from 1996 to date.

Will that suffice?

thanks,

Anyone researching this question might like to use Google Groups and
search for effective terms within specific dates. The archives go
back to 1981, but the World Wide Web came about around 1994. You also
might like to try the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine" at
http://www.archive.org/ to view the pages of browser pages as they
were years ago. It's likely you'll find Netscape reporting how many
downloads they had, etc in some years.
