I publish a newsletter with Publisher 2000. My color pictures turn to
black and white when I insert them in Publisher. Most copies are sent
"snail mail", but I send some copies by pdf e-mail. How do I get my
color pictures to remain that way for e-mail copies?

Dear dingbat99,

The problem sounds familiar to me. However, to be sure I need to know
what PDF printer drivers or other software you use for converting your
Publisher files to PDF format.

Scriptor

I'm using the Adobe "on-line" service for a monthly fee. Does that
help? I'm a novice and can't afford to buy the total package and
haven't got much "entry level" advice to help.

Hi. I would like to verify the following details just to be sure:

"My color pictures turn to black and white when I insert them in
Publisher."

Do you mean colored pictures automatically convert to black and white
or do you have to convert them yourself?

"...but I send some copies by pdf e-mail."

Do you send the pdf as an attachment

"How do I get my color pictures to remain that way for e-mail copies?"

Do you have any of the following programs:

Adobe Illustrator (What version?)
Adobe Pagemaker (What version?)
Adobe Photoshop (What version?)
Any other programs you have

Hi Dingbat99,

The reason why the colored images you insert automatically turn and
print as black and white is because your MS Publisher's print setting
is set to 'Single color publication'. What you need to do is to simply
change the setting. Here's how:

In MS Publisher:

Go to 'Tools' > 'Commercial Printing Tools' > 'Color Printing...'
The 'Color printing' window will pop-up.
Choose 'Composite RGB' for your 'Print colors as' setting and click
'OK"

For better image viewing, you can also change your MS Pub's 'View'
settings.

Go to 'View' > 'Pictures...'
A new window will pop-up.
Choose 'Detailed display'

I hope that takes care of that problem.

Now, since you mentioned that you are using paid monthly service of
Adobe On-line, perhaps you'd like to consider some cheaper
alternatives. I've chosen the following solutions from CNET Networks's
Download.com for you to pick one. Simply press the "Shift" key before
clicking on a link so it will open a new window or right-click on the
link and choose "Open in New Window" for your convenience.
