Hello holguinero-ga,

It appears that Artimedes, like the similar name Artemides, is a form
of the name Artemis (Greek) or Artumes (Etruscan), also known as the
Roman goddess Diana. You can view the relationships between these
names on these pages:

"Rasna - det glemte folk" [sixth paragraph]
GlobalHouse

"Vase Catalog Number: Malibu 86.AE.114"
The Perseus Digital Library

"Artemis" (updated June 10, 2000)

I hope that this information is helpful.

Search terms used on Google:

artimedes
artemides artemis
artumes artemis diana

[I also tried other combinations of these words, but these particular
combinations resulted in the pages I have cited.]

when you say 'a form of' can you tell me where the form came from?
i.e. who tweaked artemis to get artimedes?

There are a few references to "Artimedes di Calcide" and "der
chalkidische oikistes Artimedes", in the area of Rhegion or Messeni.

"Searched the web for artimedes rhegion"
Google
://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=artimedes+rhegion

Here is a description of these cities, which in modern times are
called Reggio di Calabria and Messina. This description explains that
Rhegion was originally a colony of "Chalicidian Greeks" (which I
believe is the origin of the words "Calcide" and "chalkidische").

"Defintions: Rhegium (From International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)"
Bible Tools
http://bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Def.show/RTD/ISBE/Topic/Rhegium

Thus, it appears that an early use of the name Artimedes came from
this area of what is now Italy, or from the Chalcidian Greeks.
