Question ID: 18456
where can i find a cable and software to connect my mac (running os
8.6, but might upgrade to 9 if i can't get s/w to run on that) to my
nokia 6210 mobile phone?

i want to be able to make a backup of the phone numbers onto my
desktop computer, and send text messages as well if poss.

there are plenty of progs available for PC but i've not found any for
mac, nor have i found the right cable.

the mac has a usb connector only - no serial port.

i believe the 6210 phone has a different model number in the US
(because it's on a different frequency) but it's basically the same
phone.

Hi there,

Thanks for your question, I found the following:

PhoneManager 1.0.3 for Apple Macintosh and Nokia 6210, Nokia 6310
which does phonebook editing, logos, picture SMS & SMS.
http://www.macmedia.sk/pm.htm

Registration of the software costs $27, and it works on OS 8.6

It needs this $59 cable:

Google search used:

mac suite 6210
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=mac+suite+6210

I trust that this answers your query. Feel free to request
clarifications on any aspect of my response.

Thanks for using Google Answers, and best wishes,

thanks for getting back quickly, but the cable you referred to won't
connect to my phone. i'll still need to buy a separate cable for that.
if poss, can you find me an all-in-one nokia to usb, otherwise it's
going to work out expensive. thanks bookface for taking the extra time
to add to the answer with a budget option. it's appreciated.

This cable is compatible with several software packs, "and more..."
Generally speaking a cable is a cable, and it should work with the
software I mentioned above. I have contacted both companies and will
let you know what they say about using the two together.

The makers of Phone Manager responded:

"There is a Mac USB cable for Nokia 6210/6310, available at
http://www.digicom.it which was reported to work correctly with
PhoneManager, however we have not tested it yet."

http://www.digicom.it/digisit/schedpro.nsf/ENProdottiIDX/palladiousbDataCableNokia?OpenDocument

Distributed in the UK by A M Micro - use this page to ask them where a
local dealer is:
http://www.ammicro.co.uk/where_to_buy.htm

A Belgian web site has it for 143 Euro:
http://www.macc.be/ENGLISH/prodcat.cfm?categorie_id=103

The driver requires OS 9.0, if you are willing to upgrade.

They also said that these cables will work if you can get a Mac driver
for them (which they think is unlikely):

http://www.cellsavers.co.uk/acatalog/Cellular_Accessories_Nokia_6210___Nokia_6310_13.html

They say that this one will not work on a Mac (Mobilefun have not
replied to my email yet):
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/products/nokia/datacable/fonedatasuite.htm

Hope it works out.

Cheaper, better version of the cable. Never tried it myself, but I
hear good things. I'm not looking into compatibility issues with the
software, but I'm pretty confident all it needs is any form of the
cable.

just a small comment: I just know the PC versionS and problemS of
this: there are cables for the 6110/6150 that look exactly like those
for the 6210 but they are not compatible when using the Nokia Data
Suite (they work well with the LogoManager though). So make sure that
you get the right cable anyway, probably best would be the original
Nokia Cable for the 6210 (RS-232 Adapter Cable DLR-3P) (
http://www.nokia.com/phones/6210/mobile.html )

good luck!

Hi,

there is also a bluetooth connection for the 6210, perhaps that could
be an option to you:

Nokia 6210 and Bluetooth

bluetooth's not an option. it's to connect my desktop, not laptop.

well at least you _can_ connect via Bluetooth to your Desktop using
the USB Bluetooth adapter -
"... PowerMac G4 or iMac (in the case of the PowerMac G4 and iMac, you
can attach the Bluetooth USB Adapter to the free USB port on your
keyboard). "
see

I'm afraid it will be more of a problem to find the right software for
the 6210 once you're connected...
