Melbourne is situated on the edge of Port Phillip Bay. Geelong is as
well, but it also faces the ocean. There are too many names of suburbs
that are along the bay's coastline to list, but I feel quite confident
that any media reports would use the phrase "Port Phillip Bay".

I really can't remember a recent shark attack in Victoria (fyi,
Geelong's Eastern Beach has shark proof caging around its swimming
pool in response to an attack dating back to the 1880s). This is
probably due to the fact that our water is a lot cooler than other
parts of Australia, hence fewer swimmers. However, in response to
Journalist, if you go to the Surf Life Saving Victoria site:
http://www.slsv.asn.au/home_slsv.html and click on the centre flag,
you will find a map of the bay beaches for Port Phillip Bay. You might
want to check out the south west region too. Hope this helps.
