I have written to two organizations that might have the information
you are looking for. I will let you know if I receive a useful reply.

While I await a reply, I should ask you: what exactly is the
information you are looking for? You say, "Trophy or Cup". Does this
mean that you want to know whether a trophy was awarded, or whether
instead a cup was awarded? Are you looking for any other details
about the race or about the trophy or cup?

A peuter(?)Cup has come into the thrift shop where I volunteer and we
want to know something about it and possible value. A lot of the
engraving has worn so bad we cannot read. It does have HMRet.

There are a few letters I can make out but most is very blured.Could
you suggest a way we can make it more readable?

Could you find out to whom it was given? Also would any organization
be interested in having it?

Hello, hernon01,

Re: making the inscription more legible...
You could always try the old "gravestone rubbing" trick with the cup
to see if anything becomes more legible.
Take a thin sheet of paper--something a bit stronger than tissue paper
and a bit more flimsy than white copy paper. Place it over the area
of inscription on the cup. Using a very soft pencil, a soft piece of
charcoal such as you might use for charcoal sketching, or a piece of
colored chalk, gently rub back and forth on the paper. Any
inscription may come through more clearly that way than by simply
looking at the engraving.

Good luck!
