How or where can I contact the Kean Archives of Philadelphia? The
Kean Archives of Philadelphia are cited in a number of web and
literature articles as the source of illustrations such as Alfred Waud
drawings. I have found no directory listing or any information other
than "they" exist in Philadelphia.

Hello marmole-ga,

The short answer is that the Kean Archives have become part of Getty
Images, Inc., and specifically Hulton|Archive.

The longer answer is that Kean Archives at some point became part of
Archive Photos (in turn part of a larger entity called Archive
Films/Archive Photos), and that Archive Photos became part of the
Hulton Getty Picture Collection, now known as Hulton|Archive, which is
turn a part of Getty Images, Inc.

Here are the web pages that trace this history:

1) Several web pages mention "Kean" or "Kean Archives" in conjunction
with Archive Photos.

'Searched the web for "archive photos" kean'
Google
://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=%22archive+photos%22+kean

2) An article from now defunct Archive Films/Archive Photos web site
mentions the "Kean Collection":

"A Pictorial History of Women from Archive Films/Archive Photos"
(February 25, 2000)
Internet Archive cache of Archive Films/Archive Photos
http://web.archive.org/web/20011118072220/http://www.filmarchive.com/photo/iu_womenpic.html

3) An article from now defunct Archive Films/Archive Photos web site
mentions Archive Photos' new association with the Hulton Getty Picture
Collection:

"Archive Photos Now Representing The Hulton Getty Picture Collection"
(September 1, 2000)
Internet Archive cache of Archive Films/Archive Photos
http://web.archive.org/web/20011021202633/www.archivefilms.com/news/newsHome.html

4) An article describes how Getty Images formed Hulton Getty, and then
Hulton|Archive after acquiring Archive Photos:

"About Hulton|Archive"
Getty Images, Inc.
http://search.hultongetty.com/ixbin/hixclient.exe?_IXDB_=hulton&_IXSESSION_=&search-form=about.html&submit-button=search

At one point, the Kean Archives were clearly in Philadelphia; but they
probably moved to New York when acquired by Archive Films/Archive
Photos. As part of Hulton|Archive, it can be contacted at these
addresses:

"Contact Hulton|Archive"
Getty Images, Inc.
http://search.hultongetty.com/ixbin/hixclient.exe?_IXDB_=hulton&_IXSESSION_=3CgzUjgn1KV&search-form=contact.html&submit-button=search

I hope that this information is helpful.

Search terms used on Google and Ixquick:

"kean archives" philadelphia
"kean archives"
"archive photos" kean

[I also searched for defunct web pages on the Internet Archive;
clicking on some of the links to those pages led me to the Getty
Images site.]
