hello,

i put up a web site and it was ranking high in the google engines for
not only it's keywords butr also it's name but
it dropped and does not show up at all as a result for it's keywords
now. it's still showing up as an indexed site in the search engine
though.

http://www.northshoresurfer.com

could it be that i used the word "north" 11 times in the text on the
home page?

if so, i have redone the text. how do i get it to rank high again.

thanks,
leighton o'connor

Hello Leighton2,

Could you please clarify: what are the specific keywords and phrases

Thanks.

Hi,

It has nothing to do with the number of times you used any particular
word. Your site seems to be free of anything than could negatively
affect your ranking. However, your site has a PageRank of zero, which
usually indicates you have done something Google disagrees with. I can
only think of two possibilities:

1) You use software like Web Position Gold to make automated queries
to Google, to check your ranking.

2) It's a glitch and will be remedied with the next index update,
which should occur within the next week or so.

thanks for your comments...here is a clarification...

a few weeks ago northshoresurfer.com was ranking on the first page
for the keywords below...

north shore surfer

north shore ads

classified ads north shore

north shore newspaper

free internet newspaper

classified ads massachusetts

internet newspaper massachusetts

internet classified ads massachusetts

swampscott newspaper

nahant newspaper

i had the word "north" in the text of the welcome page 11 times (by
mistake) but changed it when i saw the ranking had dropped.

this exact same thing happened with http://www.skatingcostumes.com
they were getting a first page ranking for all their keywords but in
changed a few weeks ago. i had "skating" in the text of their welcome
page 11 times also. recently i subscribed skatingcostumes.com to
positontech but it has not changed their ranking.

any ideas? did i stumple on something??

thanks for your help.

I use Google manually by checking their keywords one at a time. I do
not use web Postion Gold. Once in great while I will use To Be Found
by VSE to check page rankings. I also use To be Found to submit to 80
engines but ONLY once a month. To Be Found is a Mac based program I've
been using for years without any problems. It's harmless...I think.

I noticed in Google that the last page they have cached for
skatingcostumes.com is from 2/7. How does that page look? Did I made
any bad errors on it? That page has skating 11 times on the text.

Thanks for your help!

This probably isn't the reason, and it seems unfair if it is, but I've
run out of ideas. You similar sets of links www.blueswirls.com and
http://www.web-design-massachusetts.net/

Google's software might have decided that those two pages, plus:
http://www.web-design-massachusetts.net/web_design_massachusetts.shtml
http://www.blueswirls.com/web_design_clients.shtml

..., plus the fact that all the sites link back to yours, equals an
attempt to artificially inflate link popularity using reciprocal
linking. If you no longer use or need
http://www.web-design-massachusetts.net/ I'd get rid of it, and
re-submit the removed pages so that they disappear from Google's
index.

Alternatively, have the linking going only one way, so it doesn't
appear to be reciprocal.

thanks again for your additonal comments. my addtional url may be a
problem but why would the only punish two of my cleints and why didn't
they band my two similiar urls's. if reciprocal links were frowned
upon every web designer who was makerting their clients sites would be
out of the engines. do you know any phone numbers for google?

thanks again!

In my experience, whenever there is a reciprocal linking scheme, only
some of the sites using it get penalized initially. I guess it is
because Google only checks a subset of its index each month. As is
usual with these types of questions, there is no hard evidence, only
anecdotes.
