Dear Uzzz,
I've browsed around the internet and although it's not hard to find
short bios discussing Edwin Starr's contribution to Motown, I think
his official website might give you a more personal feeling for him,
and the Soul-Patrol website is a bit different from the others.

E! Online News - Soul Man Edwin Starr Dies by Marcus Errico:
"His antiwar classic (with the refrain: "War! What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing."), a number one hit in 1970 and revived as a Top
10 single in the 1980s by Bruce Springsteen, remains relevant, adopted
anew by those opposed to the military action in Iraq. Springsteen, who
had performed the song on stage with Starr in the past, even used
"War" to open his Australian tour two weeks ago".

BBC News:
"Soul legend Edwin Starr has died at the age of 61, after having what
is thought to have been a heart attack."
"His biggest hit was the protest song War, which asked "what is it
good for?", in 1970."
"It's a bitter irony that the man who wrote the words "War what is a
good for, absolutely nothing" should die at a time when the majority
of the world is repeating his very words."

Sorry for the delay in getting this done - I got called away for a
time. It's interesting to see the links that are being returned now on
a Google search for Edwin Starr, compared to what was returned when
you first asked the question. There were only a few obituaries earlier
(the BBC News item above was one) but now practically the first
hundred links are about his death and life.
I hope I've found what you are looking for but if you need anything
further, just let me know -
Thank you, U.
Sincerely,
hummmer
