Will a '94 VW Jetta automatic transmission work in a '95 VW Jetta that
was equiped with an automatic transmission? Apparently there is a
plug that does not match up, it appears to be on the top of the
transmission. Any thoughts? |

Dear bigbobwatts,
I spoke to a VW mechanic. He told me to ask you whether the '95
Jetta's speedometer is is connected to the transmission mechanically,
by a flexible shaft, or electronically, by a plug and wire. This might
be very important for what you have in mind.

I'm not sure as to how it is connected. I'm not a car guy... But I
do know that I have a '95 Jetta III GLS with an automatic
transmission. It has a 4 cylinder 2.0L engine. These are the facts
that I have. Sorry I don't have anything else.

Dear bigbobwatts,
I submitted all information to the VW mechanic. He told me that you
will not be able to use the '94 transmission in your '95 Jetta. They
are incompatible because the electronic connections for vital devices
such as the tachometer control have been changed completely between
those two year of manufacture - thus the plug that causes you
headaches.
Since this is no good news for you, I decided not to post it as an
answer, but as a free comment.
I am very sorry I can't give you more enjoyable information.
