I am missing the March issue of Men's Fitness Magazine. I have been
following the training regimen through Phase 1 and 2 that were
described in the January and February issues. I desperately need the
details of the Phase 3 regimen. What are the exercises on each day,
how many sets, and how many reps do I need to perform for each
exercise. Also, what is the recommended time between sets. I do not
need the nutritional information that accompanies this phase, just the
information on the workouts.
Thanks!
Doug

Hello.

Using an article database available through my local public library,
I've located your article:

"Getting sliced: phase 3 will transform the gains you've made in
the past 12 weeks into lean muscle. (Fit For Good). (weight-training
plan)" by Melvin Jones.
Men's Fitness, March 2003 v19 i3 p88(7)

For copyright reasons, of course, I can't reproduce the text of the
article here.

However, I will summarize the schedule of exercises in my own words.
I'm not including complete descriptions of the exercises because I'm
assuming that you're familiar with them from phases 1 & 2.

You're instructed to warm up for ten (10) minutes before each workout,
and rest for twenty (20) seconds between sets.

Here we go:

On the first day, you have to do two sets (20 / 15) of each of the
following:

  Leg press
  Barbell squat
  Leg extension
  Barbell lunge
  Barbell row wide-grip pull-down
  EZ-bar pull-over

This is followed by three sets (20 / 15 / 12) of the standing
hamstring curl.

You're to finish with three sets (20 each) of the rope crunch.

On the second day, do a half-hour of skipping rope (high intensity)
and ten minutes of stretching.

On the third day, you have to do two sets (20 / 15) of each of the
following:

  Front barbell raise
  Upright barbell row
  Decline cable flye
  Push-up
  Cable crossover
  Incline dumbbell press

You're to finish with three sets (20 each) of reverse crunch.

On the fourth day, do a half-hour on the treadmill (moderate-to-high)
and eight minutes of stretching.

On the fifth day, you have to do two sets (20 / 15) of each of the
following:

  Press-down
  Single-arm overhead extension
  Standing barbell curl
  Dumbbell kick-back
  Standing single-arm cable curl

You're to finish with three sets (20 each) of rope crunch.

I hope this helps. If anything is unclear, please use the request

If you have the information handy. I believe certain exercises in this
plan are supposed to be linked. That is a set of leg press is supposed
to be immediately followed by a set of squats, then a rest, then press
and squats back-to-back again. Do you have any information on which
are linked?

I gave you the exercise plan in exactly the order that the article
does. There's no mention of linking.

The closest thing that I can see to that particular combination is
what's mentioned for the beginning of Day 1:

" EXERCISE SETS REPS
  Leg press 2 20-15
  Barbell squat 2 20-15
  Leg extension 2 20-15
  ... "

Why not just buy a back issue? Surely the March issue is out there for
sale somewhere.
