Dear bryan1812a,
Since the article explicitly says: "In the late 1960s, he sang and
played guitar in a rock band that had one immortal moment", there can
be no doubt that this band was "Yes".
Anderson, who had been playing with David Foster and Ian Wallace in
The Warriors since 1963, returned to London from Germany in March 1968
as a solo artist. On 26 July 1968, John Anderson joined Peter Banks
and Chris Squire to form the new group "Yes". The band would do many
gigs in the following years.
To learn more about the band "Yes", wou might want to have a look at
their official website:

On reflection,I don't think John Anderson (accountant & musician)and
Jon Anderson(Yes)are the same person.Would an accountant have time to
release 20 albums and tour, whilst also building a career in the
gaming industry?
I suspect the band with the pre Led Zeppelin members was called 'Band
of Joy', containing Robert Plant and John Bonham. If so the question
would be,'What was the name of the band that once headlined over Band
of Joy,and that this particular John Anderson played in?
