i have read all the rules and regulations for flying the US flag. It states in one section that you can not fly the flag at night without it being illuminated(lighted some how) my question is,was'nt that order amended after "9/11" for civilians so they could fly the flag day or night with out it being lit up? | |

booby... Thanks for your question. Title 4 of the US Code covers Flag, Seal, Seat of Government and the States. Chapter 1, Section 6, Paragraph (a) of Title 4 covers Time and Occasions for Display: "It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness." [http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/4/6.html] There have been no updates to this section of Title 4, therefore, the answer to your question is, no, there was never an order amending the rules for flying the flag at night. Thanks again for your question. If you need any additional clarification, please let me know prior to rating my answer.
