I am interested in buying an accounting software package to help run
my small business. It should:
1. Produce invoices.
2. Track expenses.
3. Calculate job profits.
4. Track GST and help produce Australian Business Activity Statements
5. Reconcile bank statements
6. Produce reports of financial activity.

Note that I DON'T need to do payroll or track inventory.

I have looked at all the providers listed at
http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/software/business/story/0,2000023555,20270944-5,00.htm
but most are too high-end for what I need.

Three products that seem to fit the bill are:
1. Quicken Quickbooks Lite (priced around $230)
2. MYOB Business Basics (around $175)
3. Sage Instant Accounting ($399 + $100 per year)

Are there any other products cheaper than, say, $250 that would meet
my requirements? A website that rates these products would also be
useful.

all three programs are extensively used and are the cheapest that can
be found in any market or country. I have found that the biggest
drawback in these programs is that if they crash then data recovery is
very very difficult.

I am starting to think that maybe an accounts program by a local
programmer with sound accounting knowledge would serve better then an
off the shelf program. More costly maybe but i think better in the
long run

I'm not aware of any other suitable product. I'm still kicking myself
for not getting one for free when the GST arrived.
