Dear curiousone99,
Here you go - I found the following listed in the NYC CitiDex Yellow
Pages.
MEDICAL APPLIANCES: RENTAL (Wheel chairs, beds, etc.) (1)
Falk Drug and Surgical Supply
Provides equipment, such as commodes, hospital beds, blood pressure
units and wheelchairs, to suit all homecare needs. Sales or rental.
259 E 72nd St
New York, NY, 10021

I phoned Falk to confirm that wheelchairs can be rented for only one
or two weeks, and he said "Sure, no problem". It's $100 per month or
$55 per week.

Unbelievably, Falk is the only listing in the NYC Citidex under
medical equipment rental - I would've thought there would be a dozen
or more. You might want to contact the Visitor's Center in NYC and
tell them your situation - I'm sure they could help you. Also, many
hotels offer wheelchairs for free or for a reasonable fee as a service
for their clients - that would be the first place to check.
