Please give me the reference to Rustamova's quote "When the will is as
taut as a bowstring the ant can overcome the lion." Who is Rustamova
and where does the quote come from?

This could be a coincidence, but Zebiniso Rustamova was a champion
archer for the Soviet Union.

"FITA World Outdoor Target Championships - XXVIIIth World Championship
Tournament - June 25 - 28, 1975 - Interlaken, Switzerland"
International Archery Federation (FITA)
http://www.archery.org/results/worldchampionships/outdoor/3wm75.htm

"Archery in the Olympic Games - XXIst Olympic Games - July, 1976 -
Montreal, Canada"
International Archery Federation (FITA)
http://www.archery.org/results/olympics/og1976.htm

An archer would be a likely person to use a "taut as a bowstring" as a
metaphor.

If you suspect that this is the correct answer, I could also post
further information about Ms. Rustamova's work after the break-up of
the Soviet Union.

This may very well be the source. Did Rustamova write anything? What
are her dates? I know I read this somewhere in the 80's but I am not
sure where. Ari Kiev

You are probably right. Was she ever interviewed and can you find the
source of that quote. Ari Kiev

I think the quote comes from a Russian translation of the 12th century
Persian poet Omar Kaiyam, but I can provide you with no information
about Rustamova. Would it be sufficient to provide you with full
details of the original quotation?

Kind regards

Where and when did you see or hear this quote? That might provide a
clue for the researchers.

Dear arikiev

Unfortunately I could find only one Russian web page

http://www.powerlifting.org.ua/books/stong/strong2/introduction.htm

with the quotation you are looking for:

Где воля
натянута
как тетива,
Там
муравей
одолевает
льва

Where the will is taut as a bowstring
The ant will overcome the lion

Omar Kaiyam is given as the source, but I have been unable to verify
this at any sites on Omar Kaiyam. I have sent an email to the
webmaster of the website asking for the source. If I receive a reply I
will let you know.

All the best

Sorry, the Russian letters didn't show up correctly in my posting.
